Elon Musk has announced that his new Neuralink brain chip will allow users to listen to music directly through their brains. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO is embarking on a new venture involving a brain-computer interface with various functions.

Neuralink, his latest tech startup, has gradually released information on Twitter in recent days. In response to computer scientist Austin Howard, Musk confirmed that the technology will enable people to "listen to music directly from our [Neuralink brain] chips." He also mentioned that Neuralink could help regulate hormone levels, which could enhance abilities, reasoning, and provide anxiety relief.

Founded in 2016, Neuralink has held only one major public presentation on how the technology works, with more details expected on August 28. At a 2019 event, Musk described the device as a "sewing machine-like" apparatus that connects a brain-inserted chip to a computer. This may sound daunting, but Musk explained that the device would offer a direct connection between the brain and a computer.

Initially, this technology could assist individuals with brain diseases such as Parkinson's, but the ultimate goal is to enable humans to compete with advanced artificial intelligence.

Last week, a Twitter user inquired about the device's capabilities. Pranay Pathole asked if Neuralink could retrain the part of the brain responsible for addiction or depression. Musk responded affirmatively, stating that this is both promising and intimidating. He noted that all our sensations and thoughts are electrical signals, reflecting on the universe's origins and its journey to sentience.

Musk compared getting the device implanted to having laser eye surgery. The company appears to be recruiting, as Musk recently tweeted a call for experts in wearables, particularly those skilled in solving challenges related to sealing, signal processing, inductive charging, and power management, to join Neuralink.

Animal trials for the new technology have already begun, and human trials are expected to start later this year, though the exact date has not been disclosed.
